NEO ARCHEOLOGIA

NEO ARCHEOLOGIA
Alexandre Bavard explores history and collective memory through a practice called Neo-Archeologia. By collecting objects from the urban environment, he creates bas-reliefs where the remnants of the present converse with ancient iconography. This process of excavation and reassembly gives rise to works in which the past, present, and future intertwine, questioning the transmission and reinterpretation of symbols over time.
His canvases extend this exploration by addressing signs of protest. Through an act of erasure inspired by buffing—the systematic removal of graffiti—he covers slogans and imprints of struggles, allowing specters of rebellion to emerge. This work on disappearance and persistence reveals a tension between censorship and memory, where traces of dissent, though erased, remain etched into the very surface of the canvas.
Through a singular visual language, Alexandre Bavard highlights the fragilities and fractures of our time. His works are fragments of a world in perpetual transformation, sculpted in matter, questioning what we choose to preserve and allow to vanish.
